How One Officer’s Bravery Turned Tragedy into Triumph: Ridley Township’s Hero

We’re incredibly proud to share that one of Ridley Township’s very own, Officer Sara Howell, has been named the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) Officer of the Month for December 2024!

On December 18, 2024, Officer Howell displayed extraordinary courage when she rescued a driver trapped in a burning vehicle after it had been struck by a train. Disregarding her own safety, she pulled the victim from the car just moments before it became fully engulfed in flames, ensuring he could receive the emergency medical care he needed.

William Alexander, CEO of NLEOMF, said it best: “Officer Howell’s extraordinary bravery and selflessness in the face of immediate danger are a testament to the commitment and courage displayed by law enforcement officers every day.”

The Officer of the Month Award Program, sponsored by the Police Unity Tour, recognizes federal, state, and local officers for exemplary service and devotion to duty—and Officer Howell exemplifies just that.

Join us in congratulating and thanking Officer Howell for her heroic actions and unwavering dedication to protecting our community. 🖤💙
